URBAN GREEN SPACE PROJECTS

PROJECT 1 - Beechholme

Here we have worked with a wonderful TRA headed by David White who have done wonders with the green space.  We were invited in when David saw the work we do at the Clapton Park Estate.

PROJECT 2 - Homerton Railway Station

We have been lucky enough to work with Sue Philips and the volunteers of the Friends of Homerton Station group.

Together we have created London's first wildflower station.  Just up the road from the Clapton Park estate (see our Urban Green Space). The stations meadows are full of native flora and will hopefully inspire rail passengers to think about the potential of getting native flowers back and up-close in our cities.  It’s been a great project and wonderful to work with Sue, the driving force behind the whole idea.

We replaced strips of turf and the ubiquitous hybrid teas with a vibrant and nectar rich herbaceous borders.

Moving away from the grass and shrub monotony common in social housing green space can often be the catalyst for a more enlighten view of all aspects of resident involvement in their estate.

We also seeded the railing edges with annual flowers to help reduce the use of herbicide and create a colourful strip of flowers, something we are well known for.

The planting scheme and drawings were all by a our great friend Wendy Allen http://www.wendyallendesigns.co.uk/  Wendy and friends also helped us complete the work.  Many thanks Wend and friends.

My brother Rob and friend Dave laid some of the wildflower turf we used on some of the steeper banks.

A much prettier view for the commuters than the unloved border before.
